His commitment to excellence began early on. Graduating with honors from St. Laurence High School in Burbank, Illinois, in 1968, he embarked on an educational path that led him to De Paul University. In 1972, he achieved remarkable milestones, attaining a Bachelor of Science in Commerce with honors from De Paul University's College of Commerce. His dedication extended further as he earned his CPA Certificate from the University of Illinois in the same year. The pinnacle of his academic journey came in 1974 when he obtained a Juris Doctor degree with honors, cum laude, from De Paul University's College of Law.

His career began at Arthur Andersen & Co., where he ascended from staff member to manager, culminating in his partnership in 1984.
